Narrative

Shortly after World War II a new group of Hollanders started to immigrate to the United States. By this time Willem Rolffs had a family, and no longer had a desire to move to a new home in a strange country.
After World War II our families sent many boxes of clothing
and blankets to the family of Willem. Their son Henry had several small children and clothing was very scarce. Henry wrote to his Uncle Dick that during the war years they had often used newspapers to wrap their babies in to keep them warm. In one of the boxes Dick had sent a toy John Deere tractor for one of Henry's boys. In the mid 50's John Rolffs was stationed in Germany for a year, and during a furlough visited the Rolffs family in Holland. John said the toy John Deere tractor was sitting on a shelf beside the Dick Rolffs family picture, and he knew he was in the right house.

Narrative

Willem Rolffs, the oldest son of Hendrik and Cornelia chose to stay in Holland when his parents left for America, because he was old enough to enter into the military, and had always wanted to become a member of the horse Cavalry. He spent several years in that branch of service, and later married. By the time he felt he could immigrate to the United States, World War II had broken out, and the Germans occupied the country of Holland for the next five years.
