In 1942 Sophia married Guysbert Van Roekel, and Janice and Sylvia had a new father. Bert lovingly cared for Sophia's girls as his own. They lived on the Van Roekel home place on the county line road (Lynn Grove Twp. Sec. 31, lower center section).
In 1946 Sophia and Bert were blessed with their own son Bernie John, Janice and Sylvia were married in a double ceremony and Sylvia and her husband Ed Hoksbergen moved on the Van Roekel farm. Sophia and Bert moved into Pella. Bert died in 1960 and is buried in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella
